What the hell is going on at Nepal !!! Tectonic setting:
An indo-Australian plate moving against Eurasian plate with the rate of 42mm/Year. Which means the accumulation rate of stress across the fault is 42mm/Year. This stress energy has been stored at this fault zone from many year. From paleo seismological study it has been reported that the big earthquake of magnitude MW(8.3) has occurred in 1505, since then there has not any remarkable earthquake happen. The date 4/25/2015 (12 baisakh, 2072) is bad historical day, that the stored energy has released and make catastrophe in human population as well as infrastructure. Continuous after shocks of magnitude 5 and more are around 14 in 12 hours. Which means the accumulated energy is releasing on slow manner, which is good in the scene it will postpone another future disaster that likely to happen in this area. Calculation: Moment released during the earthquake of magnitude =10^(Mw)And Mw = Area of rupture X slip X rigidity of rock. If the all earthquake happen at once then the area of rupture will be high then the Moment will go high which means the more disaster, we have to face.
